It was a sellout crowd in Fort Meade, Maryland, as the Old Mill Patriots squared off against the Meade Mustangs. On Friday January 15th, Old Mill pulled off the upset by defeating the reigning state champions, with a 76-73 victory. Guard Camari Wilkerson lead the team in scoring with 43 points.

“I just knew they (the shots) had to go in. I was calm and collected and knocked them down”, Wilkerson said.

Savione Barnes made two key free throws late in the 4th quarter to tie the game.

“I played my role, and in practice I took my free throws seriously preparing myself for this situation.”

Meade fans and Old Mill fans represented well. Both sides were cheering at the top of their lungs and started numerous chants. Old Mill fans tried to storm the court after the victory but the majority of the fans were not successful. Small forward Marcel Jenkins enjoyed the victory.

“Meade was a very difficult team to beat but our defense and Camari’s 43 points really help lead to the victory”, said Jenkins.

This is one of Coach Francis’ biggest victories since becoming head coach for Old Mill’s boys varsity basketball team.

“I thought we played well enough to win, and the crowd was behind us 100 percent”, Francis said.

Now the Patriots are 9-4 and their next game is at North County High School on Friday January 22nd against the Knights.
